About Joe McVeigh

I grew up near Philadelphia and I’ve lived near Helsinki for most of my adult life. I have a wife and kids and a dog and a mortgage so I’m adulting pretty well. Or pretty poorly, depending on how you look at it. I used to read a lot of non-fiction, but I’ve forgotten how to do that anymore. My family says that anymore at the end of the last sentence sounds wrong, but it’s all good.

I'm a Senior Lecturer in Communication at the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences. I teach courses oral and written skills for business contexts, as well as intercultural communication.

I used to teach lingusitics at the University of Jyväskylä (which is in Finland). My courses were on grammar (aka morphosyntax) and corpus lingusitics and semantics. If I keep typing lingusutics, one day I’ll get it right.

Get in touch if you want to know more about my research or if you'd like me to give a talk at your university or business.

You can find me online tweeting from time to time. I tweet about bad language books and good language takes. And whenever a comic book makes a comment about language.
